The stories on this route

  1. Centennial Olympic Park

Look down at the brick paths. Many carry short engraved messages. Thousands of people helped pay for this park by buying one, at thirty-five dollars each.

  2. Zero Mile Post and Five Points

Look up for the big round Coca-Cola sign over Five Points. Atlantans call this the center of town. Long before that, it was where two Creek trails crossed.

  3. Sweet Auburn Curb Market

Look at the long brick market hall on Edgewood Avenue, and the Municipal Market sign.

  4. Ebenezer Baptist Church

Look at the brick church with its two front towers and the Ebenezer sign over the entrance. This was a second home to young Martin Luther King Jr. He spent all day Sunday here, and much of his weekday afternoons and evenings. At nineteen he gave a trial sermon here and was ordained.

  5. King Center and the Kings' tomb

Look at the reflecting pool and the marble tomb on its round island. After his funeral, Martin Luther King Jr. was buried privately at South-View Cemetery, a burial place mainly for African Americans. In 1970 his crypt was moved here.

  6. Martin Luther King Jr. Birth Home

Look at the two-story house with the wrap-around porch and the shingles in its gables, at 501 Auburn Avenue.
