Look up at the top of the arch. A four-horse chariot carries Columbia, the female figure of the United States. The group is about 25 feet tall and weighs about 25 tons. The arch honors the men who fought for the Union in the Civil War. Now look at the two bronze groups below.
Look at the library's curved front. The entrance is fifty feet high, and the whole facade bends to follow the oval of Grand Army Plaza.
Look up at the front of the Brooklyn Museum, and find the carved figures on the facade. Each one is twelve feet high. There are about thirty of them.
Come out from under Endale Arch, with its bands of yellow sandstone and brownstone, and look ahead. This is the Long Meadow. It's over a mile long, and it was artfully planned to give an impression of infinite space.
Look across the Lullwater at the Boathouse: the white front, the row of arches, all reflected in the water. Its design was inspired by Sansovino's library in Venice. Find the bronze lamps at the top of the steps. There's one opposite each column.
Look at the low farmhouse with the gambrel roof. It flares out like a bell, and rests on six slender columns over the porch.
