Look at the great columned building, with the dome in the middle. Of the more than 200 buildings put up for the 1893 world's fair, only two still stand where they were built. This is one of them.
You're on the Midway Plaisance: a park a mile long and 220 yards wide, joining Washington Park to Jackson Park. Look at the sunken lawn down the middle.
Look up at the tower. At about 200 feet, it's the tallest building on campus, and that's set by covenant. John D. Rockefeller wanted this chapel to be the 'central and dominant feature' of the campus.
Look at the long, low brick house, with its deep roofs reaching far past the walls. Frank Lloyd Wright wanted it seen mainly from its southwest corner, at 58th Street and Woodlawn Avenue.
Look at the dark bronze shape on the granite platform. This is Henry Moore's sculpture, Nuclear Energy, and it marks a site. Here stood the West Stands of the old stadium, a vine-covered, fortress-style structure with round towers and battlements.
Look at the long wave of figures. There are 100 of them, and across the basin from them stands Father Time, hooded, with his scythe.
