Look for the painted facade at 1831 South Racine: four stories of brick, an arched doorway, faces and bands of color.
Look at the corner of 18th and Allport: rough stone, mismatched towers, and the name THALIA HALL above the entrance. A saloonkeeper from Bohemia, John Dusek, built it, and the date 1892 sits under a gable. Dusek ran his saloon in the corner storefront.
Look out for murals along 18th Street: painted shop fronts, side walls, and doors done up as Loteria cards, the Mexican bingo, by the artists MATR and KOZMO.
Look for two towers with copper domes rising over the rooftops. They're 185 feet tall, and they belong to St. Adalbert, whose front faces 17th Street.
Look across Harrison Park. On its 19th Street side is the National Museum of Mexican Art. Its front has a design inspired by the friezes of Mitla, in Oaxaca, Mexico.
