The stories on this route

  1. The Old Silk Mill and the Guild of Handicraft and Hart Silversmiths

Welcome to Chipping Campden! We're starting at the Old Silk Mill on Sheep Street, and the walk is about a mile, finishing on Church Street. Each story plays by itself when you reach its stop, so just stroll and listen.

  2. The start of the Cotswold Way and Dover's Hill and the Cotswold Olimpicks and Market Hall and Bantam Tea Rooms

Look for the Cotswold Way marker by the Town Hall. This spot is one end of a long-distance footpath. It follows the Cotswold Edge for about a hundred miles, between here and Bath.

  3. Grevel House

Look at the tall bow window, two storeys high, with little gargoyles at the top. It dates from about 1370 to 1380. This is one of the oldest buildings in Chipping Campden.

  4. St James' Church, Chipping Campden and Old Campden House gateway and banqueting houses

Look up at the west tower. Five stages, and twelve slender pinnacles on top, the corner ones with vanes. Up in the bell chamber hangs a peal of eight bells.

  5. Almshouses, Church Street and Eight Bells Inn

Look at the long row of golden stone behind the terrace wall. Sir Baptist Hicks built these almshouses around 1612. His own list of good works calls it a home 'for 6 poore men and 6 poore women'. They had to come from Chipping Campden or Berrington.
