Look along Mulberry Street at the curve it still makes. That's the Bend, and this park sits right in it.
Look at the sharp bend in this short street. Doyers Street is one block, about 200 feet, with a kink in the middle. It follows the old route of a stream. It's been called "a crazy street, and there has never been any excuse for it."
Look up at the front: brick and terra-cotta, with Moorish, Gothic and Romanesque touches, and that big round window in the middle. It's Gothic in form, but the Star of David patterns leave no doubt whose it is.
Look up at the ten-story tower on East Broadway, with the clock high in the parapet.
Look at 97 Orchard Street: five stories of plain brick, shops at street level, almost identical to its neighbors. That's exactly why it matters. Its landmark nomination says it represents "great numbers of unexceptional but courageous people."
Look for the big neon KATZ'S sign at Houston and Ludlow, and the words painted on the side: "Katz's, that's all!" The story goes that a signmaker asked Harry Tarowsky what to put on the sign, and Harry replied, "Katz's, that's all."
