Look up the slope: a long white building of wood and glass, a dome in the middle, a wing on each side. This is the Conservatory of Flowers, the first building in Golden Gate Park.
Look at the wooden gate with its curved roof. Behind it is the Japanese Tea Garden, described as the oldest public Japanese garden in the United States.
Look across the water at Strawberry Hill, and find the waterfall tumbling down its eastern face. That's Huntington Falls.
Look through the fence into this big meadow. With luck you'll spot the bison grazing; look toward the west end too, where the feeding shelter and pens are.
Look at the tall shingled tower with its four huge sails, and the Queen Wilhelmina Tulip Garden around its base. It looks like decoration. It was a pump.
Look along the beach: three and a half miles of sand, running south into the haze. Out in the break, surfers in wetsuits.
Look down into the cove. Those concrete outlines, now a pond of seawater, were once the world's largest indoor swimming establishment.
